Mercedes Models Equipped with the Biturbo V8

Mercedes' twin-turbo V8 engine embodies the epitome of automotive luxury and performance. Available in various versions, it powers several models, offering an unparalleled driving experience.

M278 engine

The base M278 engine offers a displacement of 4,663 cc with an output of 320 kW (429 hp) at 5,250 rpm and 700 N⋅m of torque between 1,800 and 3,500 rpm for the S-Class, CL-Class, SL-Class, and GL-Class models. For the CLS-Class, E-Class, and M-Class models, the output is reduced to 300 kW (402 hp) with 600 N⋅m of torque at 1,600 rpm. These engines are paired with either a 7G-Tronic or 9G-Tronic automatic transmission.

In 2014, the power was increased to 335 kW (449 hp) for the S-Class models.

M157 engine

The M157, optimized by Mercedes-AMG, has a displacement of 5,461 cc. For the S-Class and CL-Class, it produces 400 kW (544 hp) at 5,500 rpm with 800 N⋅m of torque at 2,000–4,500 rpm. It powers models such as the S 63 AMG, CL 63 AMG, CLS 63 AMG, ML 63 AMG, GLE 63, and others.

M176 engine

The M176, which appeared in 2015, was equipped with a lightweight EQ Boost hybrid system in 2019. It equips the G 500/G 550, the S 560, the GLE 580, and other models.

M177 engine

The M177 engine, used in the Mercedes-AMG C63, uses wet sump lubrication. In 2019, a 48V system was added for increased performance.
